RST co-hosts a successful poetry evening.

It was a real pleasure for RST volunteer Sarah Tolley to co-host a poetry evening at Lauriston Hall with Jennifer Williams, Events coordinator at the Scottish Poetry Library. Makar Bill Herbert arrived in plenty of time to welcome the 20 or so poetry lovers who came to hear him read his poems.  The theme of the evening was ‘Journeys; reflecting the refugee experience’, and Herbert’s poems took us on a fascinating trip around the world. While breaking for tea and cake, we had fun leafing through  a selection of lovely old books of poetry supplied by Jenny at Main Point Books, and then we settled down to hear poems read by members of the audience.  Bill Herbert provided a kind and perceptive commentary for each poem; some were getting their first airing!  If you have written a poem that reflects on the refugee experience, we’d love to hear from you.
