Statement from Refugee Survival Trust on Glasgow’s Imminent Lock Change Evictions

The Refugee Survival Trust (RST) is deeply disappointed by the recent Court of Appeals decision to allow the eviction of people seeking protection in Glasgow. This action, at this time of year, will make life even more unbearable for vulnerable, at-risk people.

RST has provided vital support for this group of people through 123 emergency cash grants to cover essential living costs. We have also funded additional capacity for advocacy and advice casework at Govan Community Project and the Scottish Refugee Council.

It is now clear that evictions are set to take place and may be forced upon 30 people per week. Our response to this humanitarian crisis is to do more and we are currently developing a support package for the people who will be affected.

We’d like to thank everyone who has already contributed to our Lock Change Eviction Appeal. With your support we can continue to deliver emergency grants for people who are facing street homelessness at the cruellest time of year.
