Nadif was granted refugee status in July 2007. His support from the Home Office finished 28 days after he was granted refugee status. As a refugee, he should then have been entitled to Job Seeker's Allowance as he started to look for employment. However, an important form sent to him by the Home Office was lost in the post. Without this form, his application for Job Seeker's Allowance could not be processed. He had no savings and no other source to fall back on and was left destitute.
RST supported Nadif for two weeks with a grant of £40 per week until the Home Office reissued the form needed to start his benefits.
