January 2017: We’ve produced two sets of walking directions for people needing to travel to the Home Office in Liverpool to submit a fresh asylum claim:

Home Office from Liverpool Lime Street Station

Home Office from Liverpool ONE Bus Station

We’d like to know if people find these directions helpful, so please feel free to download them and email any comments or suggestions for improvement to DASS_Administrator@rst.org.uk.

December 2016: Following our tender for the DASS Year 2 Evaluation, we’ve chosen a proposal from two highly experienced researchers. Work on the Evaluation will start in the New Year and we expect to have it completed for publication in spring.

November 2016: DASS has been awarded funding from Big Lottery! This is fantastic news and will enable us to continue our work supporting destitute asylum seekers to prepare fresh asylum claims.

September 2016: We’d like to welcome three new staff at DASS!  Gillian Melville has taken over from Barbara Coll as Immigration Case Adviser at the University of Strathclyde Law Clinic. Scottish Refugee Council has expanded the Destitution Advice team with a new Destitution Adviser, Zhada Robertson, who will work alongside Lindsay Reid. British Red Cross has recruited a Research & Development Officer, Ruth McKenna, who will be working on a joint research project with RST.

July 2016:  We would like to welcome our new Accommodation Worker, Dodee Olangi, to the DASS team. Dodee’s previous experience working with vulnerable women as a volunteer with the British Red Cross Women’s Orientation Service will be invaluable in her new role at RST, supporting DASS clients living in our temporary accommodation.

June 2016:  We have recently been awarded funding from Foundation Scotland’s New Beginnings Fund, which will enable us to expand the project’s capacity. The funding will be used to employ a part-time Destitution Adviser and set up a service users’ group.
