UK wide

Asylum Aid works to secure protection for people seeking refuge in the UK from persecution and human rights abuses abroad. They provide free legal advice and representation to the most vulnerable and excluded asylum seekers, and lobby and campaign for an asylum system based on inviolable human rights principles.

Asylum Support Appeals Project provides free legal representation and advice for those having problems obtaining financial support.

British Red Cross has a dedicated service for refugees and people seeking asylum, and can help with advice and limited emergency support in cases of destitution. They can assist with orientation, and run a family reunion and re-settlement service. Many of their volunteers have multi-lingual skills, and a significant number are themselves refugees.

Council for Assisting Refugee Academics supports academics who can no longer work in their home countries.

Immigration Advisory Service is the UK’s largest charity providing representation and advice in immigration and asylum law.

NACCOM is a UK-wide informal network of agencies providing accommodation for migrants who have no recourse to public funds. This includes a map of projects across the UK.

UK Visas and Immigration is part of the UK Government’s Home Office and has responsibility for issues around immigration and asylum in the UK, including Scotland.  It makes decisions on asylum claims as well as issuing financial support and housing to those going through the process.  Their site contains information on the asylum process, immigration rules, applying for a UK visa, right of abode, settlement and citizenship.

England

Refugee Action provides advice and support to asylum seekers and refugees in the North West, the Midlands, London, South West and South Central.

Refugee Council is an independent charity which provides advice and information and campaigns on behalf of refugees and asylum seekers living in England.

Wales

Welsh Refugee Council provides information and advice, as well as raising awareness for refugees and asylum seekers living in Wales.

Northern Ireland

NICEM works to promote racial equality and human rights in Northern Ireland
